College Volleyball team reach national cup finals

Newcastle-under-Lyme College’s (NULC) Academy of Sport is celebrating after the Mixed Volleyball team made it through to the British Colleges National Cup Finals.

The Mixed Volleyball Squad overcame Middlesbrough College with a 2-1 final score to reach the British Colleges National Cup Final.

The Men’s squad also beat Middlesbrough College on the same day enabling them to reach the quarter finals of the National Cup.

The National Cup Finals will be held on Tuesday 24 April 2012, where TEAM:NULC will take on either Salford City College or Taunton College.

Trevor Humphreys Academy of Sport Manager said: “Week after week TEAM:NULC are coming home with tremendous scores and reaching the final stages of national competitions. The students from the NULC Academy of Sport are extremely dedicated and disciplined and continue to raise the standard of sport played amongst their peers. “

Trevor continued: “The coaches have been instrumental in the Volleyball teams’ success, putting in extra work and transporting the team all over the country to allow them to play.”

Along the way TEAM:NULC fought off strong competition from Colleges across the country including St Thomas More College from Birmingham, Dudley College, King Edward VI Sixth Form College from Stourbridge and Richard Huish College from Devon.
