Huddersfield Heats Div 3 side knocks NULC Knights out of the National Shield Tournament.

The Knights were back in action on Sunday 21st October for their National Shield encounter with the Huddersfield Heat.  This game would prove to be an exciting one as it came down to the wire.

The Knights would have its shooting problems against Huddersfield only managing to shoot 35% for the game. Even though the Knights had shooting problems they managed to keep the game close throughout by playing very good defence. This game went down to the fourth quarter were the Knights had an opportunity to tie the game down the stretch, and send the game into overtime.

The Knights would not make good on this opportunity and would turn the ball over. The Heat would go on and win the game 70-67. Coach Jamison said; “The guys fought hard today. We played a pretty good Huddersfield team and almost pulled off the upset. Any coach will tell you turnovers will eventually catch up with you, and today was our day. I think we are getting better as a unit we just need to keep or composure a bit better in tight situations and we will be fine”.

National Volleyball Academy starts training

Newcastle-under-Lyme College Volleyball players have started training as part of the new National Satellite Programme , ran in partnership with England Volleyball & Newcastle Staffs Volleyball Club.

Newcastle-under-Lyme College is 1 of 6 colleges that have been selected throughout the country to be a Satellite Academy. 12 students have been selected to be part of the programme, with another 12 being chosen each year for the next 5 years.

England Volleyball launched the Academy to ensure they can continue to compete with our European neighbours and increase success at junior international level. The academies  will provide an enhanced level of support to  talented junior players.

Volleyball England in partnership with the college and club  will establish daily training satellite environments for junior players  with professional coaching, appropriate support and ancillary services and linking to AASE programmes.

Alongside this Volleyball England will deliver Divisional and National Team competitive programmes for a select group of academy players providing an extended exposure to International representative Volleyball.

Newcastle-under-Lyme College Knights start home season with a win!

Newcastle under Lyme College Knights survive a late scare to beat the Stockport Spartans 92-84 to advance in the Men's National Shield Tournament.

The Knights bounced back after a narrow defeat last weekend to the Rossendale Raptors. The Kni
ghts started out with all guns blazing to take an early lead of 14pts. As we all know basketball is a 40 minute game and the Knights seemed to lose focus in the 2nd quarter. For the second week in a row Knights players got themselves in early foul trouble. This would prove to be a problem for the Knights as most of the starters were on the bench due to this problem.

The Knights did show the depth of their bench as players came in and did a solid job until the starters could returned. The final quarter would be the deciding factor of the game, the Knights outscored the Spartans 30-22 and this would be enough to seal the victory.
Jared Rushton had a monster of a game with 19pts and 17 rebounds.

Coach Jamison had this to say "Any coach will tell you, he/she is happy to get the victory. I thought we were not very focused today and I will take responsibility for that. 32 turnovers and 5 players fouling out will make it very difficult to win basketball games. We will be better and I look forward to our next match."

The Knights next home match on the 21st of October which again is in the cup against Huddersfield Heat.

Anyone is welcome to come alaong and watch at the Gordon Banks Sports Centre. Tip off is 2pm.
