College holds conference for Young Ambassadors of the future

The College is inviting nine local schools to an interactive sport conference aimed to encourage them to take part in sport volunteering in the community.

The conference, which is being hosted at the College’s brand new £60 million campus on Wednesday 20 October, from 2pm - 5pm, is part of the Youth Sports Trust’s national Young Ambassador Scheme.

Young Ambassadors are officially part of London’s promise to the world to use the power of the 2010 Olympic Games and Paralympics to inspire millions of young people to choose sport.
Trevor Humphreys, Academy of Sport Manager and Lecturer at NULC said: “This interactive conference will comprise of a selection of training workshops, talks, practical sessions and talks with current NULC sport students.”

He continued: “Tom Roden and Michaela Bradbury, who are two of our selected Young Ambassadors, will be taking part in the conference and talking to students about the advantages of getting involved in the programme!”

NULC currently runs a Sports Volunteering and Leadership Academy, including the “Step into Sport” programme, which is designed to provide high quality support and development for young leaders and volunteers who are committed to volunteer work within their school and community.

By the time the Olympic Games and Paralympics take place in 2012, more than 5,000 young people from across the UK will have been through the Young Ambassador programme, which is managed by the Youth Sport Trust on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).

During the conference, school students will also have the opportunity to join the Associate Membership Scheme at NULC. By signing up they can get involved in sports tasters at the College and hear about the College’s latest successes and general sports news.
