Kerri hits the Women's Super League

Academy of Sport member of staff and former NULC student Kerri Welsh has been announced as a first team player for Women’s Super League 2's Aston Villa.

Kerri left Everton Ladies FC at the end of last season after spending five years there. Having made the move to Aston Villa Ladies at the beginning of the season Kerri has been training hard on and off the field where she started out playing in the development squad. Kerri impressed with her attitude and skill on the field and so was asked to start training with the first team where she joined forces with Sherry McCue also an ex NUL C student.

Kerri joined the first team squad for their pre-season friendly fixtures then made her debut for the first team against Yeovil Ladies in their FA Cup fifth round clash.
In the match preview before they took on Yeovil Ladies, First Team Manager Joe Hunt couldn’t speak highly enough of Kerri: “Kerri Welsh has been excellent over the last few months.
“We signed her last summer and gave her the incentive to work hard in the development team until Christmas then potentially push for the first team.

“She has got her head down, trained hard and pushed herself ahead of others to be in the squad for this weekend.’’
This week is a big week for Kerri, with Aston Villa Ladies’ season beginning on Wednesday 18th March which will see Kerri facing ex-club and ex - team mates as they will take on Everton Ladies in their first match of the season at home at Sutton Coldfield Town FC.

Said Academy Of Sport Assistant Manager  Tana Owen: " All of us here at NULC are so proud of what you have achieved and that you re living your dream of playing football, we are all behind you."
