The NULC Knights made history on Sunday. In the process
of winning the England Basketball Division 4 Midlands Conference Championship,
they also become the first Basketball team in the Staffordshire area to win on
a National League level. The Knights would finish the season on an impressive
note as they traveled down to Loughborough to face an eager Student Riders
Team. NULC would enter this encounter without one of their main weapons in
Joshua Dos Santos.
Seb Brunsdon would
pick up the scoring slack with a cool 18 points of the bench. The Knights would
eventually hold of the stubborn Riders club a snatch the victory by a score of
87-69.
Coach Jamison had this to say... " It is a great
honour to deliver a championship trophy to Newcastle under Lyme College. NULC
have supported me and the guys from day 1 and we just wanted to show them how
much we appreciate their support. Also I would like to say Thank you to our
fans as your overwhelming support made this possible. We also would like to
send a big Thank you to Stoke City Football club for their continued
support."
The Knights will be back in action on March 22 as the
will host a playoff game against either Kingston Panthers / Hull Wasps. Tip off
time is 2:00pm at The Gordon Banks Sports Center.
