The development of Basketball at Newcastle-under-Lyme College within the last year has been huge through the formation of Newcastle-under-Lyme College Knights. The club is being coached and ran by former NBA and Harlem Globetrotter, Shawn Jamison, who is also the college’s Basketball Academy Head Coach. Shawn's update of the season so far is below:

"The Newcastle Knights have now completed the first half of there inaugural season in the EBL National league in division 4, and currently sit in 6th place in the West Midlands Division. As a coach I would have to say I am very proud of our guys so far, as they have shown the commitment to play at a higher level. In saying that I expect much more from the guys during the second half of the season. We have shown we can compete with every team that has been put in front of us this year, we just have to be smarter on the floor and make better basketball decisions. I am really looking for a strong finish from the guys for the second have of the season"

David Meakin, a scrum half or centre has been selected over 100's of students throughout the country to attend the England training camp on Friday 16th, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th December.

College Young Ambassadors trained and ready to go

Newcastle-under-Lyme College have 4 newly trained Young Ambassadors that are trained and ready to develop the Olympics ideals within college.

Ross Thompson, Bethany Wragg, Jamie Perry and Sam Botham attended a 1 day training event at the Ricoh Arena on the 1st December. The event was held by the Youth Sports Trust and the 4 students learnt how to develop activities and events within college to promote the Olympics.

The Young Ambassador movement commenced in 2006 following London’s successful Olympic bid where Lord Coe promised the UK would use the power of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to inspire millions of young people to become involved in sport.

The role of a Young Ambassador involves increasing participation in school sport and PE, spreading the word of the Olympic and Paralympic Values – respect, friendship, personal excellence, courage, determination, inspiration and equality – and promoting the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
