Record Success at BCS Regional Championships

On the 7th of February 2011 57 students represented the college at the British Colleges Sport (BCS) regional qualification tournament at Lilleshall National Sports Centre. This was a record number of students to represent the college at these games and is a testament to the emphasis that the college places on sport. The students competed in a number of sports such as Badminton, Squash, Table Tennis, Cross Country and Volleyball.

All the students competed extremely well and made the college proud with their commitment, attitude and sportsmanship. There were a number of major successes of the day as 13 progressed to the national tournament at Bath University in Squash, Table Tennis, Trampoline, Cross Country and Swimming.  

The following students will be competing for the West Midlands team at the National Championships:

  • Roxanna Keshavarz- Squash
  • Natalie Slater- Table Tennis
  • Naomi Yates and Lauren Harrison- Trampoline
  • Sam Edwards- Swimming
  • Sammey-Jo Daley Davies, Hannah Jones, Marie Oakley, Paige Machin, Steph Crowley, Georgina Holmes- Women’s Cross Country
  • Tom Guy- Men’s Cross Country

This event marked the end of a successful autumn/winter regional tournaments programme for the college and demonstrates the college’s commitment to becoming one of the top sports institutions within the West Midlands.

NULC Basketball Academy helps launch new Nike Store

The NULC Academy of Sport Basketball Academy helped to launch the new Nike Store at Freeport, Talke on Thursday 3 February 2011.

The Academy took part in Basketball Academy demonstrations throughout the day and even received a gift voucher each from the store to thank them with their help during the event. The students will be helping out at future events at the Store along with Shawn Jamieson, the new Basketball Academy coach.

College welcomed to 2012’s ‘Get Set’ network

NULC is celebrating after it was officially welcomed in to London 2012’s Get Set network, in recognition of its commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic Values.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has awarded the College with the status to acknowledge its involvement in the London 2012 education programme through the NULC Academy of Sport.

The NULC Academy of Sport gives students the chance to study and pursue their sporting interests at the same time. Opportunities for students include Football, Basketball and Netball Academies, an Elite Sports Performance Programme (ESPP), a Sports Volunteering and Leadership Academy and a Coach Education Programme.
