Record number of NULC students selected to represent region in national finals

More students from Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) than ever before have been selected to represent the West Midlands region in national British Colleges Sport (BCS) competitions.

A group of 17 students from TEAM:NULC have been selected to play for the West Midlands in Hockey, Netball, Ladies Football, Rugby Union and Men’s Football.

The successful students all attended a trial at Warwickshire College on Wednesday 6 October where they competed for TEAM:NULC against other students from colleges across the West Midlands.

Trevor Humphreys, Academy of Sport Manager and Lecturer at NULC, said: “We’re overjoyed that 17 of our students have been chosen to represent the West Midlands – this is the most students we’ve ever had selected and is testament to the high quality training and support they receive here.”

The students are all part of TEAM:NULC, a programme run within the NULC Academy of Sport programme at the College, which gives students the chance to study and pursue their sporting interests at the same time.

He continued: ”All students who become part of TEAM:NULC are invited to represent the College in BCS competitions in order to help them progress and gain recognition in their chosen sport. This is a fantastic opportunity for all the students involved and I wish them every success.”

All sports represented by the College have the opportunity to progress to the BCS regional finals, which are held at Lilleshall Sport Centre in Shropshire, from which the England Colleges teams are selected.
