A new ParaVolley team is set to play at the national
volleyball centre in Kettering on 15th February.
The mixed gender team started to play last November at the
Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) as a trial run. Since then it has been a
success and the team formed has gone on to win many matches.
The Castle ParaVolley team is part of Newcastle Staffs.
Volleyball club, which is one of the largest clubs in England. The Castle
ParaVolley team is led by Mark Speake along with Justin Phillips who featured
in the GB men’s sitting volleyball team in the 2012 Paralympic games.
The Newcastle Staffs. Volleyball club is linked with 4
education centres around the area and Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) is
one of these. The club currently uses the Gordon Banks Sports Centre for
training and many of the members of the clubs attend the college.
For members of the Newcastle Staffs. Volleyball club it was
free and for non-members, the first session was free and then £2.50 for
sessions after.
Newcastle Staffs. Volleyball club has a proud track record
in developing players and have the highest possible level of club
accreditation. The ParaVolley sessions focus on learning to play and enjoy the
sport.
The sessions are open to anyone of any age, regardless of
experience or disability. The coach of the team is Richard Stacey-Chapman, who
is a ParaVolley expert and team GB manager.
According to the club there has been a great attendance, and
the numbers for the sitting volleyball are continuing to rise. The club has
also further developed itself and entered the ParaVolley Grand Prix for the
2014/15 season which culminates on 15th February in Kettering.
